Curriculum
Reading
New reading curriculum will be implemented this school year. Students will learn to love reading and their specific needs will be targeted through assessments and interventions. Students will be leveled for reading, meaning they will be working on skills and with texts that are appropriate for their reading level. This will make reading instruction as beneficial as possible.
The reading curriculum aligns to the Common Core State Standards and is called American Reading Company, or ARC for short. During reading instruction, students will have whole group reading, where reading strategies are taught using teacher modeling, read-alouds and scaffolded instruction. They will also have small group reading to work on their specific needs to make them stronger readers, as well as IRLA Reading which is a time for students to work on developing their reading stamina with texts that they are able to read successfully. |
Math
Students will strengthen their math skills by developing number sense and learning to problem solve. Math will be taught in a whole group and small group setting to teach the instruction to all students and then differentiate for students based on level of understanding and need. Students will receive percentile grades for their math work this school year.

Science
Studies will learn through hands on activities during Science instruction.
Social Studies
Students will read and learn about social skills such as kindness and how to interact appropriately with others. The social studies curriculum allows for self reflection with students as they share life experiences and make connections between their experiences and the concepts in the units.
