Stamina Reading
Congratulations kids! You read for 30 minutes two days this school year! Check out our stuffed animal reading we earned as a treat. It happened to line up with our pajama day, so students were extra cozy!
Here is our Stamina Chart for the month of October! Look at the progress we have made this year!
In Miss Pepper's classroom, students are working hard to improve their reading stamina.
Stamina means doing something for a period of time without getting tired or giving up. We are working on reaching the 20 minute mark for reading stamina! 10 minutes and 15 minutes were amazing benchmarks to achieve this early on in First Grade! Students are now able to read around the classroom and finding a cozy spot to read for a longer period pf time! Keep up the good work! |
To introduce stamina reading to the class, we read Mr. Putter and Tabby Run the Race by Cynthia Rylant. In the story, Mr. Putter trains for a running race and practices touching his toes everyday so that he can do well. When he is running the race, he finds out how hard the race is, and that he needs a little extra help. Luckily for Mr. Putter, his friend Mrs. Teaberry's dog Zeke is very excited on race day. Zeke actually ends up running through all the people racing, and Mr. Putter grabs on to the leash. Holding on the leash, Mr. Putter is pulled across the finish line and WINS the race! With this book, we talked about stamina, determination and effort while reading.
